Plastic bucket widely used to hold paint, this is the reason of it’s name “paint bucket”. And some place people use it to hold food also.
1. Material of the plastic bucket.
Usually bucket made by polypropylene (PP).
2. The material of the bucket mould.
P20 steel is most popular for bucket mould, high-grade forged tool steel relatively free to defacts; it is available in a prehardened steel. It can be textured or polished to almost any desired finish and it is a tough material. Bucket mould often inserted with copper alloys (beryllium copper) for fast cooling, is used to meet specific requirements to meet tool life and cost. But the choice of steel is often limited, particulary by the available sizes of the blocks or plates that are required for the large tools. Anyway, mould steel can be customized according customer’s requirement. Such as 718 steel, inserted with beryllium copper, etc.
3. Bucket mould runner system.
Plastic bucket mould can be designed with cold runner and hot runner system. For the big capacity bucket mould, usually mould with one cavity, so mold will be designed with cold sprue or hot runner big point gate.
4. Bucket mould ejection system.
Bucket mould usually designed with air ejection, strip plate or central ejector block. With strip plate, bucket can be separated with mould wonderfully, and at same time air ejection eject the bucket out of mould.
5. Bucket mould clamping structure.
There are mainly two types clamping structure – round and hexagon. However, they are same as self-lock clamping structure.
Above pictures are plastic bucket mould with round clamping structure. Compare with hexagon, it is cheaper. Another hand, lathe tooling tolerance is small, so when client’s counter offer is low, mould factory will go with this mould structure.
After study about the round structure, hexagon structure is a type advanced design. As with this, we can adjust the eccentricity. Of course, we have to provide wear plates on the parting line clamping area. Its disadvantage is the mold cost higher, due to higher cost tooling process, usually mould sizes is bigger.
When order bucket body mould, client will order bucket lid mould at same time. As the consumer will not buy bucket body only.
Pail lid mould use the almost the same mold steel with bucket mould. And runner system can be hot runner and cold runner. Detail depends on the client’s requirement.

The process of the bucket mould project.
- First we receive the inquiry of the mould from client and send the quotation to client. And get agreement on the price after bargaining.
- We start to make the plastic bucket mould and plastic bucket lid mould design after receive the deposit payment from client.
- After mould design ready, we will purchase the mould steels. And start the rough tooling after steel ready.
- Drilling holes and cooling line.
- After CNC milling tooling, bucket core and cavity will do lathe tooling.
- Meanwhile other part will do CNC engraving tooling.
- Bucket mould finished tooling and assembled, then test the molds on the injection machine. After client confirm the mould test sample and confirm the mold quality, mould will be packed and ship.
